What I've Been Drinking....

Maire and I have been slowly enjoying our Canadian beers we brought home. I think we are down to just one more, and neither one of us want to be out so it's a stand off!! The ONE we have left is also Steam Whistle which was one of our favorite ones, one that we REALLY wanted to bring home in bulk, aaaaaaand the ONE that the duty free store at the border..... was OUT of as we were coming home..... We ended up with an 8 pack of Muskoka which was a great choice, and since we've been back, they've announced that they are either closing or temp closing and moving due to an increase in alcohol tax in the province? Don't quote me on anything, I'm not even up on US news let alone Canadian news! Either way, I really hope they set up shop again somewhere else because their cream ale was GREAT!

I don't have any big updates or fun projects to post, so I figured I'd post what Maire and I have been drinking and what I thought. Well, what I thought is going to get old, I liked pretty much everything. So let's get to it!

So while walking around the duty free store I came across THIS..... At first I shrugged it off being InBev and all, but kept coming back to it.... I had never seen it before and was curious.... Well they were selling it as singles so Maire said just GET it. Of course, it was cheap. It was actually not bad in a summer beer to guzzle sort of way. Checked it out online and it appears to be exclusive to Canada. Made in Canada, distributed in Canada, and all Instagram posts I saw were all in Canada!

What's there to say......? Tasted exactly how you'd expect it to. Wish we had it here!

This was a wild card, like I mentioned, we wanted Steam Whistle but decided to take a chance on this.... It was a chance well taken!

This wasn't one of my favorites. It wasn't bad, it just wanted well balanced in my eyes. Canada DOES lagers, they are much more popular than ales there. This was very bitter as expected, but you can see, still being a 5.3% ABV lager, it just didn't even things out well enough. Glad I tried it, but wouldn't buy it again.

We are spoiled here in the US, land of the IPA.... This was decent, but as I said, Canada does lager.... Ales and IPAs still taste experimental there. This one was better balanced than the last one, but just not as good as some of the things we can get here IPA wise. I would buy this one again though!

This was actually real good! Well balanced, didn't try to overdo it with hops despite the name. I wanted to get it because it's a single hop beer, and I wanted to "compare" it to the Flying Dog single hop series. Well it being 5.5% vs the Flying Dog 7+% it was not really in the same ballpark, but it was a VERY good beer!

This b..... wait... wine!? Konzelmann Estate Winery is RIGHT across the lake from Toronto. Like, you can SEE Toronto from their fields.... We stopped there while driving from Niagara to Toronto and it was well worth the stop. You can read all about it in my last post if you haven't already!

Just threw this in because we had it sometime between the trip and now! This is the beer Maire and I brewed for Christmas I think 2 years ago...... This is also the beer we think ruined our fermenters..... We're now recovering from that though.... More on that in a future post.....

This is not something from Canada, just an honorable mention because of how good it is! The candy bar was a bonus!!

THIS..... is something that's bottle conditioning now.... Keep an eye on social media and for future posts here.... This should be a good one.....

This is a stop Maire and I made on the way back from a Thanksgiving trip. Wicked Weed in Ashville NC...... This brewery was one of the biggest brewery / brew pubs I've been to I think. VERY cool place, wish we had more than a few hours to spend in Ashville!

We DID end up taking a piece of Wicked Week home with us though. Wanted to try this one after really enjoying the Southern Tier. This one was a lot different, you can see it's a lighter beer, but was JUST as good!

And finally, Lot 9 pils. I've said it already, Canada DOES lagers.... This is no exception. This was a VERY tasty, well balanced beer! I would definitely buy this again and I would REALLY like to try some of the other beers they brew!

So that's a snapshot of what Maire and I have been drinking! Look for a holiday edition of what I've been drinking just before or after the new year!
