Maire and I finally got up to western MD to do some running around! If you're following me on social media, and you should be..... (links to the right!) you'd know that Maire and I both ended up with new bikes this summer! That probably should have been a post on it's own here, but long story short, we were shopping for a new bike for me, ended up finding a 2-fer special so Maire got a MUCH needed upgrade as well!!
So this is a late post, the fun happened the weekend of 8/5. Now it has been a LONG time since we went biking on the rail trail. We couldn't really remember how long it had been..... But fear not, Facebook was there to make sure we knew that.... What's funny is it
happened to be 8 years ago to the
day!! On the timehop ripoff that Facebook has integrated, right before we left I see pics from 8/5/
2008!! I couldn't believe it..... What are the ODDS!?
Here are the pics from
then!!
| I can't believe how YOUNG we both look!.... Or how much HAIR I have! OMG! |
| We were going to try and recreate this pic, but none of this was here anymore. It was much nicer, it had all been redone and modernized. |
| It's not far to get to the PA line from where we were starting, but it's still pretty badass to say you biked across state lines! |
So fast forward to 2016..... We came prepared this time around. This trail connects Pittsburgh and Cumberland From what I've found, it's all the way up hill going north..... The most fun thing to do is park a car at the trailhead in Cumberland and only go
downhill.... and that's exactly what we did.
| So here we are in 2016.... Take a scroll up for fun and compare. Wish I had one with my helmet so you could see the progression of baldness...... |
| Rail trail is no joke..... You have a rail.... You have a trail.... Not complicated.... LOL |
| A shot of the new bike(s) (they're both the exact same bike.) |
| Rail trail complete with tunnels and all!! |
| There is an awesome bike shop in the little area in Cumberland at the trailhead. In addition to having cool shit like THIS, good bikes and good accessories...... It's also a homebrew supply store.... Although I don't really need anything in this store, Maire and I always find lots we want! |
| Yep.... These numbers look good to me! :-D |
So we had a great ride and a relaxing night after that. The following day we get up early and set out for Fallingwater, the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright house in PA! Of course I don't have any pics of that. No pics allowed inside and well, you can't get anything you can't google as far as exterior pics. It was amazing. It was way more engaging than I thought it would be, and I think we'll definitely be back. There were a number of people there for a second, third or more time! Apparently it's like watching a movie, you find things you didn't notice the first time or 2! After leaving there we looked for a brewery or brew pub to grab some lunch. Ended up at a
surprisingly awesome little place in the middle of corn fields just north of Deep Creek Lake! It was called Mountain State Brewing company, and if you're a beer fan and happen to be passing through that area, you should definitely put it on the list of places to stop!
| This was their beer selection! Also had great wood fired pizzas and a decent size menu! |
It was a very good weekend. We packed a LOT into the small amount of time we had like we always do. Wish we could have taken more weekends like this. I think that's going to have to be a priority next summer!
